A reed diffuser is made up of three parts: a decorative container, scented oil, and the reeds. The scented oil is placed inside the container followed by the reeds. The reeds can be made of wood, bamboo, or other material in which they draw the oil upward and then the oil evaporates into the air releasing the fragrance.

When all the oil has been evaporated, just purchase new scented oil and refill the container.

How Long do the Reeds Last in a Diffuser?

A good quality reed will last approximately six months. If the fragrance is no longer as strong as it once was, try flipping the reeds. Over time, the reeds will become saturated and can get clogged with dust. When this happens, it is time to replace the reeds.

Once a reed is used for a specific fragrance, you should change to new reeds if you change fragrances. The old scent can mix with the new scent and could produce undesirable results.

Diffuser reeds are available in different thicknesses and lengths. Generally, the thicker the reed, the higher the rate of diffusion and as far as length, select reeds that are double the height size of the container. Longer reeds will make the container top-heavy and could tip over.
